The Burberry Check

The Burberry Check first lined our raincoats in the 1920s – its popularity grew as customers began to specifically request Burberry Check.

In 1967, a buyer in our Paris store became inspired whilst preparing a fashion presentation for the British ambassador. The buyer removed the Burberry Check lining from a coat and used it to wrap luggage and create an umbrella cover – the Burberry Check accessory was born.

The Burberry Check scarf was introduced in the 1970s and has become one of our best-known accessories. Each cashmere scarf is woven on traditional looms at a 200-year-old Scottish mill.
